About the Project

The project aims to establish the importance of Syria as a migration route for Sociable Lapwing and to identify key sites that may require future conservation protection. This survey will follow up recent sightings of large flocks of sociable lapwings in Northern Syria and will help establish a longer term conservation effort for the species. The project links to a wider project on Sociable Lapwing and will potentially contribute to the development of future work on the species’ wintering grounds and migration routes (funding dependent).
